Montauk Brewing Company Set To Tap into Second Strong Year
Local beer company sees early success.

Last year, three East Hampton High School graduates— Eric Moss, Vaughn Cutillo and Joseph Sullivan — banded together to brew beer. Almost a year later, Montauk Brewing Co. is growing in popularity.
“We had a busy winter, and had the tasting room open all year,” Cutillo said. “We’ve added almost 40 accounts,” he said, thanks in part to their new partnership with Boening Brothers Distributors. Though they are still solely providing draught beer, they are looking into bottling or canning sometime in the next year. In the meantime, their signature Driftwood Ale taps are now popping up in Nassau County, as well as throughout Suffolk County.
Though they are excited by their recent success, the trio is more focused on maintaining a low key presence for the time being. They are optimistic about one day moving into the Manhattan market, Cutillo said their success has been due to “steady organic growth” and word of mouth. “We want to continue like that,” he said, “we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.”

For the time being Montauk Brewing’s beers are available for taste at their storefront at 62 S Erie Ave. in Montauk, and the brewers will be hosting events throughout the year. Every Saturday there is live guitar performance on the patio.
Though it’s taken awhile, in the coming months the Brewing Co. will begin establishing a brewery within its own doors. To date, the Montauk location has been a site for testing pilot batches of new brews, but the major brewing operations have been carried out on contract upstate due to town zoning concerns.

Apart from Driftwood Ale, Montauk Brewing Co. is currently experimenting with a Montauk Summer Ale and an East End Brown Ale.
Locally, Indian Wells Tavern in Amagansett, and the Sloppy Tuna, West Lake, Topside @ Gosman’s, and the Crows Nest in Montauk sell the beers. Driftwood Ale can also be purchased at the Tap Room in Patchogue, and another location in Long Beach.
