Montauk Man Charged With Felony DWI: Police

He had a prior conviction within 10 years, police say.

MONTAUK, NY — A Montauk man was arrested and charged with felony driving while intoxicated recently, police said.

According to East Hampton Town police, Gerald T. Keating, Jr., 56, was arrested on April 4 at about 10:05 a.m. at S. Edgemere Street in Montauk and charged with felony DWI due to a prior conviction within 10 years.

He was driving a 2004 black Ford south on S. Edgemere St. when he failed to signal, police said.

During a traffic stop, officers noted that he had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and slurred speech; he was also unsteady on his feet and refused a request to perform standardized field sobriety testing, police said.

He was released on his own recognizance, police said.
