Police: Man Arrested After Driving Drunk While Using Cell Phone

The arrest was made on Sunday morning.

An East Hampton man was arrested for driving drunk and using a cell phone in Hampton Bays on Sunday morning, according to Southampton Town Police.

Santiago Aguirre-Uchupialle, 23, was seen eastbound on Montauk Highway tailgating and using his cell phone without a handsfree device at about 5 a.m., police said.

He was stopped and found to be intoxicated, according to police.

Aguirre-Uchupaille was transported to the Southampton Town Police Headquarters for arrest processing.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while using a mobile phone, following too close, and operating without a driver license, police said.

He was held for Monday arraignment.
