Rain May Dampen The Fourth on Long Island
Check out the latest forecast for the holiday weekend.

The holiday weekend forecast looked just about perfect as of a day ago, but we may need to settle for two out of three days.
Rain is in the forecast for the Fourth of July Saturday as Long Islanders head to the beach, barbecues and wherever fireworks may be lighting up the sky at night.

Rain is likely during the day Saturday and temperatures will remain quite cool for this time of the year with highs only reaching the low to mid-70s, according to the National Weather Service.
Some good news: “The steady rain will depart most areas of the Northeast in time for evening fireworks, unless the storm’s progress slows,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams says.

The full holiday weekend forecast for Long Island:
- This Afternoon- Sunny, with a high near 79. West wind around 6 mph.
- Tonight- Increasing clouds, with a low around 64. South wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
- Independence Day- Rain likely, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 74. East wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
- Saturday Night- A chance of rain, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 59. Northeast wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Sunday- Sunny, with a high near 80. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
- Sunday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 65.
