"Reel Montauk, To the End and Beyond," A local presents his film in Montauk

With all the hype of the 2014 Hamptons International Film Festival wallpapering all the local websites and free weeklies, a bigger local story was passed over, until now.
East Hampton Town’s own John Barrett unveiled his documentary on Montauk titled, “Reel Montauk, To the End and Beyond,” last Thursday Oct 9, at the movie theater in Montauk with a filled house of friends and locals. John Barrett or “J.B.” as he is known to so many wrote, directed and produced the documentary that ran a full hour. It was filmed and edited by Steve Elliott.
“Reel Montauk.” is J.B.’s first effort at filmmaking. Judging by the applause after the movie was shown it won’t be his last. I lived in Montauk full time for almost 4 years and the documentary taught me things I didn’t know, even though I wrote over 1000 articles on Montauk for the now defunct weekly, Montauk Pioneer. Hopefully “Reel Montauk” will be shown many times again and even eventually make it into the festival officially or better yet get bought up by a network.
