Sag Harbor Man Sexually Abused Child: Cops

The child told school officials what happened after seeing a video about when to report touching to an adult, cops say.

SAG HARBOR, NY — A Sag Harbor man was charged with sexually abusing a child in Springs, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Juan M. Bacuilima, 56, was arrested by detectives on Wednesday and charged with first degree sexual abuse, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, after an investigation.

Bacuilima sexually abused the child in November, 2018, police said. Police were contacted by school officials in January, 2019, when the child disclosed the abuse to a teacher after seeing an educational video on when to report touching to an adult, authorities said.

Bacuilima was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned in the East Hampton Town Justice Court Thursday, police said.
