School Bus Overturns: 'We Dodged A Bullet Today,' Supe Says

The bus overturned early Friday morning in East Hampton, school superintendent says.

EAST HAMPTON, NY β€” A school bus overturned on Rt. 114 in East Hampton early Friday morning, according to East Hampton School District Superintendent Richard Burns .

Burns told Patch that there were no children on the bus; the driver, he said, was on his way to start his run.

"Thank goodness," he said. "We dodged a bullet today."

The bus driver, he said, was released from the hospital with no injuries β€” but the bus will probably be considered totaled.

According to East Hampton Town Police, the incident took place at 5:48 a.m. on Route 114 and Stephen Hands Path when a driver heading south in a 2008 Nissan sideswiped the school bus, which was heading north, causing it to overturn.

The driver of the Nissan was also taken to the hospital, police said.
