EAST HAMPTON, NY — Hearts are broken in East Hampton after the search for a missing dog came to a tragic end this week.
Oliver, a 7 lb. white poodle mix who went missing Sunday from Abrahams Path and Town Lane, died after being struck by a car, his devastated owner Karen Chavarria said.
Chavarria said she wanted to thank you the many who turned out to search for her beloved dog. "I appreciate every single person who helped and hoped for Oliver's safe and happy return."

Through tears, she said. "Mornings are different now. The hope that was there before is not there anymore."
Chavarria said her dog, who was a year and eight months old, went out Sunday night around 2 a.m., between Abrahams Path and Town Lane in East Hampton.

"He wandered off right before the heavy rainfall. I don't know which way he went. He didn't come back," she said.
Oliver would often take off after a scent, she said, and "wanders off a little further than he should. This time it started raining and he couldn't make his way back."
The night he went missing, Chavarria walked in the rain until the sun came out, searching for Oliver.
