Off Shore Wind Farm Topic Of Upcoming Joint Meeting

The meeting is slated for Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Amagansett.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A joint meeting will be held to discuss the South Fork Wind Farm, a plan that has many renewable energy advocates applauding and some fishermen protesting.

The East Hampton Town Trustees' harbor management committee and the Town of East Hampton's energy sustainability committee have teamed up to host the joint meeting on Wednesday, October 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Scoville Hall in Amagansett.

The meeting is open to the public.

Representatives from Deepwater Wind, the commercial fishing industry, renewable energy and environmental organizations will be presenting and answer questions from the public, a release said.

In January, the Long Island Power Authority's board of trustees voted unanimously to approvethe nation's largest offshore wind farm just 30 miles southeast of Montauk.

The meeting will be co-chaired by East Hampton Town Trustee Rick Drew, chair of the trustees’ harbor management committee and Linda James, acting chair of the town’s energy sustainability committee.

“Our committees have been discussing these issues separately for quite some time and we believe that a joint public meeting would be productive,” James said.

“We hope that this meeting will provide factual information and important input from a variety of stakeholders,” Drew added. “This should help us to better understand the issues and hopefully find some common ground.”

The event will be held Scoville Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 17 Meeting House Lane, Amagansett.
