Small LIRR Train Fire Extinguished Quickly In Hamptons Monday: MTA

The fire was put out in 2 minutes, officials say.

AMAGANSETT, NY — A small fire broke out on a Long Island Rail Road train Monday morning, police said.

According to the MTA, a LIRR train that was not in service had a small locomotive fire identified by crew members at 10:15 a.m.; the fire was extinguished by 10:17 a.m., the MTA said.

East Hampton Town Police said the MTA handled the situation and added that the fire was "very small."

The fire caused some impacts to train service: A 10:10 train from Jamaica to Montauk arrived about 20 minutes late due to the disabled, non-passenger train near Amagansett. An earlier train due in Montauk Monday morning was canceled due to the disabled train.
