Woman, 83, Seriously Injured In Crash With Box Truck In Napeague: Police

The roadway was shut down for several hours for the investigation, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An 83-year-old Montauk woman was seriously injured after a crash in Napeague Tuesday morning, police said.

According to East Hampton town police, the two-car crash took place east of Napeague Meadow Road at 11:15 a.m.

Kathleen F. Mercurio, 83, of Montauk, was operating a 2005 Ford sedan westbound when her vehicle collided with a 2016 Freightliner box truck traveling eastbound, police said.

As a result of the collision, the roadway was shut down for several hours to allow detectives to conduct a crash investigation and for crews to complete roadway cleanup, police said.

Mercurio was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The operator of the truck, Sergio Ysambert Jr., 25, and passenger Pablo Salazar, 44, both of New Jersey, were transported to the Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Department with apparent minor injuries, police said.
