Woman Arrested After Stealing More Than $21K From Hamptons Store, Trying To Flee On Rooftop: Police

Drones were used to apprehend her, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A Williamsburg woman was arrested after stealing more than $21K in merchandise from an East Hampton store —then trying to escape by climbing out a second-story window onto the roof, police said.

According to East Hampton village police, on Friday at 4:23 p.m., Ruth Pamela Guzman Rosario, 21, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary; third-degree criminal mischief; third-degree grand larceny; third-degree criminal possession of stolen property; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon; and second-degree obstructing governmental justice.

According to police, on Friday at about 9:40 a.m., a call came in about a burglary at the Ralph Lauren Double RL store on Main Street. Employees arriving to open the store discovered a broken door and merchandise missing, police said.

East Hampton Village police detectives were called in to investigate and were able to track the woman to an apartment on Newtown Lane, police said.

She attempted to flee from officers by climbing out a second-story window onto a neighboring rooftop, police said.

Police officers deployed a drone, officials said.

She then returned to the apartment and was taken into custody, police said.

The stolen items were located in the apartment along with brass knuckles, police said.

Rosario was reportedly visiting a friend that lived in the Newtown Lane apartment, police said.

The total value of the stolen merchandise was $21,250, police said.
