17th Annual Tomato Contest

Long Island gardeners - adults and children - are invited to bring their home-grown tomatoes to the 17th Annual Hicks Nurseries Tomato Contest to be held on Sunday, August 24th at the nursery in Westbury.

Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest red tomato, the largest circumference red tomato, tiniest red tomato and most unusual tomato of any color.

Entries will be accepted at 10 am on the day of the competition only and judging will beginpromptly at 11 am. Each contestant can win in only one category. Tomatoes must be ripe with no signs of rot and not be frozen or previously frozen.

Hicks Nurseries also encourages children to bring their "own-grown" tomatoes. Each child, 12 and under, will recieve a special certificate. Children may also enter the contest.
