2 Men Had Loaded Gun In Uniondale: Police

The men were stopped after they drove through two stop signs, police say.

UNIONDALE, NY — Two men were arrested Wednesday after Nassau police said they were found in possession of a loaded gun in Uniondale.

Officers saw a 2023 Nissan Altima traveling on Southern Parkway around 5:50 p.m. when the car drove through two stop signs on Southern Parkway at Davis Avenue and Southern Parkway at Northern Parkway, police said. Officers activated their emergency lights and stopped the Nissan at the intersection of Nassau Road and Stanton Boulevard, police said.

Officers recovered a loaded, defaced Ruger SR40C .40 caliber firearm, police said. Jaevin M. Velasquez, 21, of Uniondale, and Jhavree C. Mcbride, 25, of Hempstead, were arrested without incident, police said.

Velasquez was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of
a weapon, one count of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator and multiple traffic
infractions.

Mcbride was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
