2017 Long Island Marathon Has Lowest Turnout In Years

See who placed in the top five in the marathon and other races.

The Long Island Marathon, a tradition since the 1970s, had its lowest turnout in years when fewer than 500 people ran the 26.2 mile race over the weekend. However, overall participation was still strong, with thousands of people running in the half-marathon and 10K races.

There were 474 runners in the marathon this year, compared to 554 in 2016 and 639 in 2015. Additionally, 2,073 people joined in the half-marathon, 1,105 ran the 10K and 516 ran the 5K race — all lower participation than had been seen for the last few years.

But the weather was still great and the runners still gave it their all. People came from all over the area to run the marathon. Timothy Milenkevich of Ansonia, Connecticut finished first overall with a time of 2:45:32. On the women's side, Danya Perry, of New York City, came in first with 3:00:48, and placed 12 overall.
