#70- East Meadow Library's "Book Club in a Bag" Program

Start up your own book club with family members and friends.

If you're looking for great discussions over books with your closest companions or some potential new friends, look no further than the.

Finding a book club that meets at a time perfect for you can sometimes prove to be a trying task. Gather some prose loving pals together and start your own club at your convenience. All patrons of the are eligible to participate in this program. As the leader of your group, you'll get to borrow a bag with 10 copies of the title, discussion leader tips, discussion information and a book sign - up sheet.

After you pick up all of the supplies, it's simple! Tell the members of your club when to read the book by, set up a time to meet and use the discussion tips to help formulate a talk about the most important points of the book, central themes that emerged, the development of a particular character or any other places to which your talks take you.

Over 30 books are available on the list, so comb through them carefully to select the most appropriate and poignant for your group or simply work your way down the list for a club of avid readers. Choose a canon classic, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby or learn what all the buzz is about in movie theaters lately by reading Kathryn Stockett's The Help. Have your heart strings tugged with Kim Edwards' The Memory Keeper's Daughter or learn about the atrocities committed during the Holocaust with Elie Wiesel's true account in Night.

As with any sort of organization, there's a few rules that govern the borrowing procedure. For example, the patron who uses his or her library card to pick up the bag is entirely responsible for the bag and its contents. The bag is on loan for six weeks, although it can be renewed for two more weeks if no other group has placed a reserve on it.
