8 Injured As Walmart Tractor-Trailer Flips Over In Nassau Hit-And-Run: Police

The delivery truck sideswiped an occupied school bus, kept going and collided with seven vehicles, police say.

EAST MEADOW, NY — The driver of a Walmart delivery truck was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that left eight injured, including the truck driver, on Thursday in East Meadow, Nassau police said.

Maxwell Taylor, 56, of Amsterdam, New York, was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer south on Newbridge Road near Falcon Street in East Meadow when its sideview mirror struck a school bus with 18 students onboard around 6:45 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Taylor kept driving south, colliding with seven occupied vehicles near Stop & Shop, at 2450 Jerusalem Ave., North Bellmore, before overturning in the supermarket's parking lot, police said.

Four adults and two children suffered minor injuries among the seven vehicles that were hit, police said. They were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation.

A 16-year-old student on the school bus suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.

Taylor was arrested without further incident, police said. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Taylor was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an incident. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead, on June 14.
