88 Y/O Man In Critical Condition After Being Hit By Car In Nassau

Police say the man was riding a moped when he was hit by a car that was making a turn.

An elderly man was seriously injured in a moped crash in Westbury Monday morning.

According to police, an 83-year-old man was riding a moped south on the bicycle path along the east side of Merrick Avenue around 11:30 Monday morning. Police say a 55-year-old man driving a 2007 BMW south on Merrick Avenue hit the moped as he turned left onto Park Boulevard, which is the entrance to Eisenhower Park.

Police say the moped driver was thrown off and landed face-down on the pavement. He suffered severe head trauma and was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the BMW wasn't injured. The car was impounded for brake and safety inspections. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
