Firefighters discovered a dryer fire in the basement and the house has been deemed uninhabitable, displacing three adults and two children, fire marshals said.

No injuries were reported, and residents self-evacuated – smoke alarms were present and operated accordingly, fire marshals said.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes with 60 firefighters on scene, fire marshals said. The North Bellmore Fire Department responded with mutual aid assistance from East Meadow FD, Uniondale FD, Wantagh FD, and Bellmore FD – all under the command of Chief White, fire marshals said.

NCFM Investigators and the NCPD Arson/Bomb detectives were on scene with the cause of the fire under investigation, although it is not considered to be suspicious in origin, fire marshals said. The Town of Hempstead Building Department was on scene to evaluate the "moderate damage" to the house, fire marshals said.
