Uniondale School District My Brother’s Keeper Empowers Community With Fourth Annual Back-to-School Drive

UNIONDALE, NEW YORK—The Uniondale School District's My Brother's Keeper program recently hosted its fourth annual back-to-school drive at Lawrence Road Middle School and Turtle Hook Middle School to support District students and empower the community.

Uniondale My Brother's Keeper members and advisors were joined by New York State Assemblyman Noah Burroughs, Nassau County Legislators Olena Nicks and Viviana Russell, partner organizations, Uniondale School District administrators, faculty and staff to distribute free backpacks filled with school supplies to students. Families also had the opportunity to access community resources, enjoy music performed by Uniondale band students and bond with one another as they prepared for the school year ahead.

Representatives from the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Nassau Alumnae Chapter, the Hofstra University undergraduate chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and FourLeaf Federal Credit Union all volunteered at the drive. In addition, the District received a significant donation of bookbags from Fraport and JetBlue courtesy of U.S. Congresswoman Laura Gillen.

The District also conveys special thanks to Congresswoman Laura Gillen, Assemblyman Noah Burroughs, Legislator Olena Nicks, Legislator Viviana Russell, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Nassau Alumnae Chapter, the Hofstra University undergraduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, FourLeaf Federal Credit Union, Fraport and JetBlue."
