2. Romanian nationals arrested, accused in necklace thefts across multiple states, Long Island police say (cbsnews.com) — Nassau police say seniors in East Meadow and nearby communities were among at least 14 victims of a traveling necklace theft scheme in which suspects used hugs to secretly swap and steal jewelry. Two Romanian nationals are now in ICE custody, and detectives are publicizing the scam to warn residents, especially older adults, to be wary of strangers approaching from cars.
3. Once on life support, crash survivor honored at Eisenhower Park (liherald.com) — At Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, a crowd honored crash survivor Yianni Hatzikontos as the Brain Injury Association of New York State's Long Island honoree after he walked a parking lot length a decade after a devastating brain injury. His family, rehab team, and fellow Achilles International athletes celebrated his progress and used the event to spotlight brain injury advocacy and fundraising.
4. Gallucci's Third-Period Goal Lifts Hockey Past LIU (gogriffs.com) — A tight men's college hockey matchup at East Meadow's Northwell Health Ice Center ended with Canisius edging LIU 3–2 on a third-period power-play goal. The arena hosts the series again tonight, giving local fans another chance to catch Division I action and cheer a Roslyn native making his collegiate debut nearby.
