East Meadow Stop & Shop Raises Money for Hunger Initiative

The Stop and Shop Supermarket, located on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, raised $2,375 for its "Food to Friends" program in 2010. This money will be donated to Island Harvest to assist relieving hunger in the local area. East Meadow customers donated by purchasing paper turkey pictures and paying $1-$5 for each of them.

This is the 21st Food for Friends campaign and it was able to raise approximately $2 million dollars nationally. It ran in all Stop and Shops from Oct. 29 to Dec. 10.

In a Feb. 22 press release, Stop and Shop explained that this year was a record and the amount raised in 2009 was exceeded by 40 percent.
