Dr. Daniel Garibaldi of OCLI’s East Meadow office has been named Partner, Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI). Dr. Garibaldi joined OCLI in July of 2007 after serving as the Assistant Chief of Service and Clinical Instructor at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In this multifaceted role, he directly supervised the training of Wilmer's residents, directed an oculoplastics subspecialty clinic and served as assistant director of the Wilmer trauma service.
“During his tenure here at OCLI for the past five years, Dr. Garibaldi has made great contributions to the practice, including providing the highest quality medical care, dedication and attention to the patients he serves,” said Dr. Richard Sturm, Managing Partner of OCLI. “His vision and leadership have played major roles in the success and growth of OCLI and we are pleased to announce him being named partner.”
Dr. Garibaldi graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Neuroscience. He then received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, where he finished first in his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national honor society. He completed his general medical internship at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park and then an ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Garibaldi remained at Wilmer Eye for a two-year fellowship in Oculoplastics, Orbital and Reconstructive Surgery and served as the Assistant Chief of Service. He is currently on staff as an Attending Surgeon at Mercy Medical Center Hospital, Island Eye Surgicenter, Long Island Ambulatory Surgery Center and Melville Surgical Center.

During his time at Wilmer, Dr. Garibaldi was very active in ophthalmic research. His CV includes numerous articles and academic presentations and two book chapters. His research has been recognized by awards and grants from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Wilmer Eye Institute and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He has designed and conducted both prospective clinical trials and experimental research projects. He has served as a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed ophthalmic journals including American Journal of Ophthalmology, Cornea, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery, and Ophthalmology.
Recently, the Gift of Sight Program of the New York Grand Lodge, Order Sons of Italy (OSIA) honored Dr. Garibaldi with the distinguished Banko Award. The award is presented to a doctor or individual who conducts research in treatments of various eye disorders or the development of new technologies to further advancements in eye surgery.
