A New Place for Unemployed and Underemployed to Meet

Do you remember the Long Island Breakfast Club and all those meetings? A new club is starting that plans to continue the tradition of LIBC with a twist.

The Long Island Breakfast Club ended its regular meeting schedule in April, 2010, but a new club has started that aims to continue where they left off.

The new club currently calling itself, “Over 40 Need a Job,” aims to help those looking for the camaraderie and support of those who have been in similar situations or are still looking. The new club is being restarted by some of the original founders; Chris Fidis and Elise Negrin.

Over 40 Need a Job will meet on Long Island and also hold meeting and forums online at their new website. This new direction will allow members to sign up online, to communicate with others and post their needs when the club is not holding face-to-face meetings. Although the club targets those 40 years and older this is believed to age where most job seekers have the most trouble finding a new job.

People of all ages interested, regardless of age, are invited. Since the club posted its website there has been a great national and international response demonstrating that there is still a crisis worldwide for the unemployed seeking support.

The general format of the face-to-face meetings will be informal with occasional speakers presenting topics applicable to the club membership. The first meeting held in Mineola had a limited response but did accomplish some important goals including creating an internship for the members to contribute their time and skills to support the growth of the new club and having members offer their skills via the website to prospective employers or general public.

While the club has decided on not charging an annual membership fee or per event charge, donations will accepted to offset the cost of food and facilities.

If you have run out of places to go to network or just need a place to hang out on a Saturday then this club maybe good for you. Checkout the club on Facebook and LinkedIn to keep up with the latest information and meeting times.
