Stilettos 'R Us (excluding me!)
I thought stilettos were pistols. Well, the aisles are overflowing with these weapons of foot-destruction.
I feel like a kid when I visit DSW.
It reminds me of a colorful shoe cafeteria, in the sky!!. I get to walk up and down each aisle; look, touch, and carry. At the end of each aisle, I get to sit on a comfortable little square stool, and try on the shoes I have picked up along the way. Interestingly, although all the shoes are my 8 1/2 size, more often than not, none will fit! Perhaps, it is because many styles are designed and manufactured in Europe, where women have smaller and definitely more slender feet. Back to my chubby and large American foot..it does upset me when I cannot squeeze it into the chosen shoe. Sort of like the step sisters in the Cinderella tale, I squirm and push, turn red in the face, to no avail. "It don't fit, lady!" I look up and see my imaginary prince, frowning.
On Saturday, I had the occasion to go shopping for a pair of shoes. I was looking for a comfortable, walking shoe. I entered the megastore, located on Old Country Road and immediately felt happy..like a kid at a colorful shoe cafeteria, in the sky ;) I was scanning the area so that I might save some time, rather than walk up and down what appears to be a never-ending aisle..when I was drawn to the light reflecting off..yes! the Cinderella glass slipper!!

I quickened my pace and found myself standing in front of the much talked about..bejeweled stiletto. The heel was decorated with rhinestones or zirconia..I was not certain [which]. The body of the shoe was clear plastic. I held it up in my hand and admired the creativity of its maker. The stiletto heel was a good 6 inches. As I looked inside the box for "walking directions", a young lady wearing the store logo on her shirt appeared and asked me if I need assistance. I laughed, softly; not at her, but at the idea that she thought I would be interested in purchasing something so bizarre. I did not want to appear rude, as often is the case with older (I know it all) women, so I asked her, "Will my foot sweat in this plastic?"
She was so sincere in her answer.."It might, a little, but because it IS a dressy evening shoe, most likely, it won't." I looked at her inquisitively, and she added, "You'll be in an air-conditioned catering hall, right?" Of, course! What was I thinking?! I returned the shoe to its box and moved on.

There were so many stilettos..all fabrics, and all designs. I, actually found a pair that had spikes, yes, SPIKES, protruding from the rear of the shoe!! Then, there were the feathered ones..OMG! It's like a bird is perched atop of your shoe!! Creepers! The stilettos came in all fabrics and in all colors.
You might be asking "who buys these shoes?" Well, the men reading this article might be asking that question..the women, already know. Our daughters!!! That's who!! These are inner-city shoes. This is what is worn when the girls go clubbing. In a lesser obtuse colors, girls wear them to work! Men may love how they look, but have no idea, the pain the shoes afford.
If you are a LIRR rider, I am certain you have seen them. Sure, the girls may walk a little slower; hell, no one is steady footed! I was just amazed to see so many! In a small kind of way, I wish I were 25 again and not worried about my comfort, so that I could buy a pair..(yes! in purple leather with pewter heels)..and go to work wearing them. Alas, I bought a pair of Easy Spirit comfortable, walking shoes, and floated happily home.
