Clarke Field Hockey Impresses Versus Great Neck North

After a devastating loss to Manhasset Tuesday, Clarke High School's Lady Rams Field Hockey team rebounded with a resounding win over Great Neck North High School on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Rams came away with a final score of 9-1, today's win brings Clarke's current season record to 6-3-2.

Under the leadership of head coach Leslie Murray, the Lady Rams hope today's win has helped them get one step closer to making the playoffs.

"They did not make the playoffs last year, which was completely devastating for them," Murray explained. She also added that what sets this year's team apart from others is their chemistry.

Indeed, it was as a team that they started off Thursday's game strong, mounting a strong defense against the Lady Blazers. Clarke's back-up goalie, sophomore Monica Cintron, managed four saves and allowed just one goal. Great Neck North goalie Julliette Freudman had two saves.

Junior forward Demi Shanahan scored the first goal of the game, which gave the Rams an early lead.  With assistance from senior midfielder Allie Knorr, senior captain Evelyn Yeung added a goal of her own. Shanahan wasted no time, quickly scoring two more goals in the first half., one with assistance from junior Emma Foster. Foster also had an assist on the fifth goal of the game, scored by senior Sarah Garcia.

In the second half of the game, Yeung scored her second goal of the game with assistance from Shanahan. Senior co-captain AnnMarie Zaccheo came away with another goal for Clarke, as did junior Caroline Kosiba. Junior Nicole Gibauldi had two assists for Clarke.

While the Blazers struggled much of the game to keep up with the tremendous defense and goal-play of the Rams, their moment came in the second half with Millie Mamedoba scoring the lone goal for Great Neck North.

With the goal of the playoffs still in sight, the Lady Rams will face Locust Valley on Saturday in their last regular game of the season.
