Crime Report: Dead Body, Ponzi Scheme and DWI

On Jan 3, an East Meadow man for his participation in a Ponzi scheme that lasted more than 20 years. Jay Hoffman, 58, conned friends and family into investing money with him, much of which was never returned.

• On Jan. 2, Jonathan Levin was arrested for DWI while driving on Hempstead Turnpike.
• On Jan. 1, Juan Quintanilla was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Hempstead Turnpike.
• On Dec. 31 at 5 a.m., a Georgia man after driving the wrong way for approximately 100 yards on Hempstead Turnpike. Jean Deshommes, 31, was arrested on scene. This is the second time in less than a month that a motorist was arrested for DWI for driving the wrong way on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.
• On Dec. 29, a Nissan was stolen at the intersection of Harding Court and Post Street in East Meadow.
• On Dec. 28, an East Meadow man after nearly crashing his car into a police vehicle. After pulling the car over, police noticed a strong odor from Elisha Gabe's vehicle and two grams of marijuana were recovered.
• On Dec. 25 at approximately 7:30 p.m., in a vacant house on Tonquin Street in East Meadow. Nobody was injured, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
• On Dec. 24, a police officer of the by a patient. After the patient, Warren Coffie, 27, was arrested, a hospital employee, Tony McGee, 47, became confrontational with the second officer who responded, which led to his subsequent arrest.
• On Dec. 24 at 11 a.m., a car that was parked on Ramona Avenue had its windshield broken.
• On Dec. 22, a at the Coliseum Motor Inn on Hempstead Turnpike. Police received the call at 2:34 p.m., and it's unknown whether foul play is suspected.
• On Dec. 20, a man was arrested in connection with a that happened on the Wantagh Parkway in East Meadow. Eddy Napoleon, 20, sideswiped a Chevy and sent it into a tree, and he was later apprehended in Bellmore.
• On Dec. 20 at 3 a.m., the on Front Street was broken into and burglarized.
• On Dec. 20 at 3 p.m., property was taken from a vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike.
