East Meadow Students Get Hands-On Lesson From Local First Responders

EAST MEADOW, NY — Students at Bowling Green Elementary School's Extended School Year program got a firsthand look at the work of local first responders during a special safety event.

Members from the Nassau County Police Department and East Meadow Fire Department joined students for a day filled with emergency vehicle tours, demonstrations, and conversations about safety on July 13.

Students learned about the day-to-day responsibilities of a first responder, as well as explored police cars, armored vehicles, police horses, a fire engine, and more during the hands-on learning.

Firefighters demonstrated the protective gear they wear on a daily basis when responding to fires, and showed how the firehose works.

Students showed their appreciation through handmade thank-you cards and high fives.
