The fund was recently established in memoriam of Gloria and Nelson H. Finkelman. The awards and the Fund are operated and maintained by their children, Ex-Fire Chief Michael Finkelman, Jody Ratner, Lori Finkelman and Amy Falter.
Nelson was a 56-year member of Ladder Co. 2, and was former Department Chief, Fire Commissioner and a 6th Battalion Commander.

Finkelman was well loved, well known, and a champion of mentoring young members. His wife Gloria (of 62 years), assisted in a variety of capacities and was present at many of the Department events.
The family goal through these scholarships is to help continue to motivate, inspire and thank these students for their service, as a part of disseminating the Finkelman family legacy within the Department and in
the community.
A similar award ceremony will take place next week at East Meadow High School.
