Fun and Light Summer Jewelry Styles

Fun and Light Summer Jewelry Styles

Summer jewelry is an opportunity to lighten up and have some fun with brighter colors and playful styles. Here’s an overview of the jewelry looks and trends we’ll be seeing this summer.

Wearable pieces of art.

One of the hottest trends in jewelry this summer is pieces that look like veritable works of art with graphic shapes and innovative use of various materials. Look for eye-catching art deco designs in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors that appear to be straight out of the 1920s.

Upper arm bracelets.

Chokers — always in.

Will chokers ever go out of season? The answer, according to Fashion Week designers, runways and models, is a resounding no. Add this trend to your style stable with different chokers made from various colors of leather, with added tassels and embellishments. Go for ultra-light materials, flashy patterned metallics or, if you can afford precious stone chokers are still the trendy way to go. Added value: a number of these pieces can also be worn as a wrap bracelet.
More summer 2017 jewelry trends.

Art deco is in — The vintage look has always had its place in jewelry trends. For this summer, look for unique pieces that combine an antique look with modern style. Revisit your grandmother’s jewelry box for pendants with photos, and ethnic necklaces and bracelets from the old country. Animals and nature — Animal-inspired jewelry has been popular and continues to trend into this summer, so go ahead and show your inner lioness with exotic animal-motif jewelry. Look for faux animal skin bracelets, faux cheetah or leopard fur necklaces, tiger or elephant head pendants, or feather earrings. Make it personal by selecting an animal that represents you best. Green is still great — Going green is a great idea for this summer. Pay homage to your love of nature and the outdoors with green gemstone jewelry. Brides-to-be, take note: emeralds are still hot in bridal jewelry, and emeralds are even taking the place of diamonds in many engagement rings. Metals rock — Silver metals against tan skin add a bit of edge to your look. A recent study by the Silver Promotion Service showed that 46 percent of consumers prefer white metals for diamond jewelry. If you’re feeling bold, go with black diamonds on silver or white gold. Neon colored highlights —Yes, girls still wanna have fun when it comes to bright, ‘80s-inspired colors. Go for neon green, pink, or yellow pieces to inject some ‘80s style into your summer wardrobe.

Odd pieces are in.

If you’re into large and unique jewelry, your personal style is trending this summer. Jewelry designers are coming out with off-the-beaten-path pieces using such stones as opals, topaz, and garnets for their unique colors. Go for pieces and gemstones with a raw, organic, bohemian look.

Pastels say summer.

Nothing says summer like pastels. Innocence is in, so look for pastel-colored pearls in lavender or pink — and match your dresses with your pearls. At the office, add pastel-colored jewelry to give your neutral-colored office outfits a pop of color.

Retro estate look.

You can fetch some great pieces at equally great prices when you shop estate sales, vintage stores, pawn shops, and yard sales. Estate jewelry is big, thanks in part to the success of the TV series Downton Abbey, so get out there and snatch up some vintage looking pieces that’ll have you looking the part for four o’clock tea.
