Justen Lopez splashes into the NY State Boys Swim Championships!

Levittown-East Meadow Boys Swim Team sends swimmers for the first time

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

East Meadow, NY March 2 & 3, 2018: - Justen Lopez of Levittown, questionable to compete just two days prior to the start of the 2018 Boys New York State High School Swimming & Diving Championships at Nassau County Aquatic Center due to injury, led the Levittown-East Meadow Boys Swim Team to its first appearance at the NY State Swimming & Diving Championships. Suffering from injury, pain and unable to practice for most of the week, he swam through the preliminary and made cut time for the championship finals, the only member of the team to advance, doing so in both his events the 100 Yard Breast and 200 Individual (IM). Saving his best performance in the finals, he set personal best times and setting school records in both events.
His coaches stated that Justen was a pleasure to watch in the pool because he is a real warrior, swimming hard and determined while also being one of the nicest kids to have around. Justen, a sophomore, was selected by his coaches as team captain and deservedly and well earned, swimming whichever event, whenever and wherever the team needed him to.
Justen made history as the first team member to qualify for States and also qualified with the most events and advancing to the finals. Last year, Justen placed 3rd in the 200 Meter Breaststroke Finals at the Eastern Zone Championships in Richmond, VA, while also besting the boys Levittown-Swimming Association breaststroke record in the 13-14 and 15-18 year old division swimming for the Azalea Swim Team as well as helping Levittown-East Meadow High School Swim Team to an undefeated season and conference championships in 2016-2017 season. Justen also swims for the Long Island Aquatic Club (LIAC) and a member of the Jones Beach Junior Lifeguard and their competition team, an Honor Student, member of the Jazz Choir, Wind Ensemble, and the East Meadow-WT Clark All Acapella Group. The Levittown-East Meadow Swim Team consists of swimmers from Salk Middle School, Wisdom Lane Middle School, Division High School, MacArthur High School, East Meadow High School and WT Clark High School. Justen is the son of Joel and Rosalie Lopez of Levittown. He has two older brothers, Ryan and Christopher who were also student athletes at WT Clarke High School.
