Nassau Bus Crash Leaves More Than A Dozen Children Hurt: Police

UPDATE: Both drivers and 13 children were taken to a local hospital.

EAST MEADOW, NY — More than a dozen children were injured in a school bus that was struck by a pickup truck on Monday afternoon in East Meadow.

It happened as students at Meadowbrook Elementary School were leaving for the day, just after 3:30 p.m. The truck was traveling south on Old Westbury Road when it collided with the bus in the vicinity of Melanie Drive.

The 66-year-old bus driver and 13 of the 41 children were taken to a hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The 57-year-old pickup truck driver suffered a hip injury and also was brought to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Police do not believe any criminality took place.
