Nassau Man Caught On Video Burglarizing Home: Police

Police say the homeowner's surveillance video led to the arrest of the burglar.

EAST MEADOW, NY — An East Meadow man was arrested early this morning and charged in connection with a burglary that happened in mid July.

According to police, officers responded to a home on 2nd Street in East Meadow at 6:45 p.m. on July 13 for a residential burglary alarm. When they arrived, the officers looked at video with the homeowner from a surveillance camera. It showed a man breaking a window and entering the house, then stealing multiple items, including credit cards.

Police say the investigation led them to Philip Dayton, 29, of East Meadow. Police say he had also tried to use one of the credit cards shortly after the burglary.

Dayton was arrested without incident at 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 1.

He is charged with second- and third-degree burglary, third-degree identity theft, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree attempted criminal possession of stolen property. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
