Nassau Police ID Remains Recovered From Sump

The young man whose body was recovered on Wednesday was a victim of MS-13, police said.

Nassau County police have identified the remains that they recovered from a sump in East Meadow on Wednesday.

According to police, the body belonged to Carlos Rivas-Majano, 21, of Uniondale. He was killed by MS-13 gang members last August, police say.

On Thursday, police arrested Carlos Benitez-Hernandez, 21, also of Uniondale, for the murder. Police say there are also other gang members they suspect were involved that are already behind bars.

According to Newsday, Benitez-Hernandez and others hacked Rivas-Majano to death with a machete. Benitez-Hernandez was already in federal custody when he was arrested by Nassau Police, Newsday reported.
