Neighbor Catches 2 Men Stealing From LI Homeowner's Mailbox: Cops
The neighbor followed a car driven by the men after they took an envelope out of the mailbox of a LI home, police say.
BETHPAGE, NY — Two men might have successfully stolen a credit card belonging to a Bethpage homeowner had it not been for a good neighbor.
Just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, the neighbor saw a man in a BMW nab an envelope from a mailbox belonging to the Bethpage homeowner, police said. The neighbor hopped in a car, followed the BMW onto the Southern State Parkway and called New York State Police, officials said. Police said the neighbor gave officers the location of the BMW, which was driving eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near exit 41N, Town of Islip. Officers stopped the BMW and found the two men inside had a credit card that didn't belong to either of them, police said.
The driver, Luis E. Garcia, 29, and Frailin F. Guzman, 28, both of the Bronx, were arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (an E felony). They were each issued an appearance ticket for Suffolk County First District Court on Jan. 29, 2020.
