American Airpower Museum and Infinite Variety Productions to Present a Production of Censored on Final Approach

Phyllis Ravel's Riveting Play Tells the Story of Women Pilots During WWII - set against the backdrop of an actual WWII hangar.

(Farmingdale, NY) – On May 8th and 9th 2015, the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY in partnership with Infinite Variety Productions will present a production of “Censored on Final Approach” by Phylis Ravel, a the story of four WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) who were hired by the Army Air Forces during WWII to fly military aircraft and tow targets for live anti-aircraft artillery practice. There were over 1,000 WASP during WWII.

The women in Ms. Ravel’s play are willing to accept any mission for their chance to serve their country, gain the respect of their male counterparts, and experience the thrill of flying. As one of the characters in the play puts it, “I guess that’s the difference...Most men are here because they have to be. We’re here because we want to be.” This is a story of strength, courage, identity, and the close-knit friendships formed during a very important period in American history. These women flew a combined total of some 60 million miles in every type of military aircraft and paved the way for future generations of female pilots, both military and civilian.

We hope to bring a deeper layer of meaning to IVP’s acclaimed production by performing this piece in the AAM’s historic WWII hangar against a backdrop of vintage aircraft. With the ability to explore the museum’s exhibits, the WWII planes, interact with various authors and historians specializing in the WASP, and witness a play that comes straight out of the history books, IVP and the AAM promise this will be a night to remember for all attendees.
