Women’s Club of Farmingdale Celebrates
113 Years of Community Service
On April 2, 2026, the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) celebrated its 113th Anniversary with a catered lunch from Patrizia’s of Hicksville. Luncheon Chair & President Lynda Leone, together with her committee: Margaret Barrett, Rosemary Emigholz, Ingrid Hernandez, Debbie Podolski, Cathy Sewell and Lorraine Stanton, served an assortment of delicious hot lunch items and tasty desserts including a beautiful birthday cake.
A slate of new officers for the 2026-2028 WCF Executive Board was announced and will be presented to the general membership for vote at the May meeting. The following club members were presented certificates honoring their induction into the GFWC NYS Order of the Rose and the GFWC NYS Honor Roll: Cheryl Parisi, Order of the Rose, and Nancy Carman and Lynda Leone, Honor Roll. Selections were made, and certificates presented, by Ann Lomonte and her committee: Marie Asencio, Anna Ievolo, Maria Ortolani and Fran Rotondo. These inductees were recognized for their many years of exceptional service and accomplishments to their club and community. The WCF also officially installed new member Cathy Purcell and welcomed her to the women’s club community of volunteer women committed to making a tangible difference.
The program at this meeting focused on Family and Elder Care. President Leone introduced Thomas C. Tuzzolo, Associate Executive Director and John D’Angelis, Director of Business Development, both Medicaid Planning Specialists with Long Island Family & Elder Care. They spoke about the Medicaid planning process of arranging your assets so that you will qualify for Medicaid benefits to cover the costs of long-term care needs (nursing home care, home care, assisted living) without having to spend down all your assets. This program was very well received. For more information: Long Island Family & Elder Care, 781 Old Country Rd., Plainview, 516-826-4483 ext. 5.
On March 25, Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) President Lynda Leone delivered 3 large bags of cleaned pill bottles, donated by club members, to West Hills United Methodist Church in Huntington. Collecting the pill bottles is part of their ministry work. President Leone met with Cindy Winch and Pastor Won Tack Lee from the ministry office. The pill bottles are mailed to Matthew 25: Ministries which accepts donations of clean, empty, recapped, label and residue-free plastic pill bottles for inclusion in shipments of medical supplies. The club’s pill bottle program fulfills the dual need of improving medical care in developing countries and caring for our environment.
On March 27, the WCF Book Club, chaired by Elaine Ryan, met at Rosemarie’s Restaurant in Farmingdale to discuss a much-enjoyed selection, The Briar House, by Kate Quinn. It takes place in a 1950’s boarding house in Washington D.C. where secrets abound, as well as unlikely friendships and an odd collection of neighbors while capturing the paranoia of the McCarthy era and evoking the changing roles for women in postwar America.
The Women’s Club of Farmingdale, a local 501-C-3 non-profit organization, is always interested in welcoming new members. For more information, please email: lyndaleone@gmail.com or jude523@aol.com.#IAMGFWC
