FARMINGDALE, NY — The Town of Babylon is cracking down on illegal mobile sound systems after a series of noise complaints in Farmingdale, officials said.

Multiple noise complaints led the Town of Babylon Investigation Unit and Public Safety Officers to respond to Adams Boulevard in Farmingdale on Monday, Town officials said.

Investigators noticed multiple vehicles with "oversized rooftop speakers and custom sound equipment blasting music at extreme volumes while congregating in the area," Town officials said.

According to officials, these were "not ordinary car stereos, but heavily modified mobile sound systems specifically designed to project music over long distances and create excessive noise disturbances impacting nearby neighborhoods and businesses."

Supervisor Rich Schaffer said the town will be monitoring for these types of vehicles as we head into warmer months.

"Residents and business owners should not have to endure excessive noise from these illegal sound systems disrupting their quality of life," Supervisor Schaffer said.

Schaffer added that the Town and Suffolk County Police Department want to ensure the community remains "safe and enjoyable for everyone," and that vehicle owners who violate Town ordinances may face repercussions, such as legal action, fines, and potential equipment seizure (where permitted under law).

The Town asks any residents who observe these systems to contact Citizen Services at 631-957-8696.
