EAST FARMINGDALE, NY — Nine people were rounded up, 12 vehicles impounded, and 46 traffic tickets issued after a street takeover in East Farmingdale on Friday night, Suffolk police said.
The Street Takeover Task Force learned, through intelligence gathering and social media monitoring, that an event was planned in the Plainview-East Farmingdale area at 11:30 p.m., according to police.
The drivers of numerous vehicles "effectively" closed down the roadway on Central Avenue by driving recklessly, performing stunts in the roadway, and doing donuts and burnouts at around 11:40 p.m., and members of the Street Takeover Task Force responded, police said.
The following people were arrested and charged with unlawful speed contest, a misdemeanor:
• A 23-year-old from Merrick.
• A 20-year-old from Merrick.
• A 31-year-old from Corona.
• An 18-year-old from Deer Park.
• A 26-year-old from Brentwood.
• A 20-year-old from Jamaica.
• A 30-year-old from Uniondale.
• A 21-year-old from Merrick.
• A 22-year-old from West Islip.
They are scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
