From free walk-through displays and pumpkin painting to ticketed adult parties, residents can find both family-friendly and 21-plus options close to home throughout October.
2. Adventureland's Pumpkin Park Event Set for October 31st (iloveny.com) — Adventureland in Farmingdale is hosting its Pumpkin Park Halloween celebration on Saturday, October 31, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with trick-or-treating on Sweet Street included in admission. Families can enjoy rides, costumes, and treats while dozens of Long Island nonprofits hand out candy and receive donations from Adventureland's Helping Hands Foundation, turning the day into both a community party and a local fundraiser.
3. High school roundup: Girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer, field hockey and boys badminton (newsday.com) — Farmingdale High School's boys soccer team was edged 1-0 by Freeport, with goalkeeper Jonathon Buonomo making four saves in the Nassau AAA matchup. The roundup also highlights strong performances from other Long Island schools in girls volleyball, soccer, field hockey, and badminton, giving a broader look at how neighboring teams are shaping up this season.
4. Chancellor outlines SUNY plans to prep students for AI in workforce (wamc.org) — Students at SUNY Farmingdale are already being asked to wrestle with tough questions about AI's energy use and democratic impacts, as SUNY rolls out new system-wide policies. Chancellor John King Jr. says campuses are adding AI-focused general education requirements, faculty training, and cybersecurity safeguards so graduates across New York can use AI as a tool without letting it replace real learning.
