Fresh Year. Renewed Mission. Infinite Impact.
The Women's Club of Farmingdale
The Women's Club of Farmingdale (WCF) held its first meeting of the 2026-2028 club year on Thursday, October 1.Luncheon Committee Chair and members provided a delicious assortment of desserts, coffee and tea. The committee included: Lynne Cahill, Nancy Carman, Joanne Restivo, Agatha Vitale and in absentia Edie Allen and Judy Vilas. Lovely fall decorations completed the setting.
At the October 1 meeting, new WCF President Margaret Barrett addressed the membership with the following: motions on changes to the club's by-laws; a donation to Warrior Ranch Foundation; a new Catering Committee chaired by members Linda Kreussling, Debbie Podolski and Tina Diamond; and a possible new club resolution, presented by Resolution Chairs, Lynn Cahill and Eva Pearson. This resolution will be presented to GFWC NYS in the spring and will address a new, potentially lethal, drug called KRATOM which has recently appeared on college campuses.
Tina Diamond, (Chair of the Shut the Door on Hunger Program) reported that the WCF was the recipient of the Int'l General Federation of Women's Clubs, Inc. (GFWC) $100 award for the outstanding local food program which ensures that all students have access to healthy food when schools are closed for breaks. Members collect food that is shelf stable and/or gift cards to local food stores, meet to sort and pack the items in non-descript canvas shopping bags and arrange a pickup by the Farmingdale School District's social workers to distribute. This program is ongoing throughout the school year when schools are closed.
Because of weather related issues, The WCF had to use the rain date of October 3, 2026 for the Int'l GFWC Day of Service and the Farmingdale Art in the Park events. WCF President Margaret Barrett and members set up a table with information on domestic abuse pamphlets. The table also included a photo gallery of members volunteering on various club projects and a sign-up sheet for any interested new members. And another table included photos and pamphlets on the Farmingdale/Bethpage Historical Society which includes several WCF members.
The GFWC NYS encourages members of all women's clubs to actively engage in programs that contribute to Wellness, Literacy and Community Building. To that end,
WCF members participate in a "Walk n Talk" weekly fitness program (weather permitting), chaired by Ann Lomonte; a monthly Book Club Discussion, chaired by Elaine Ryan; and a weekly Mahjongg Game, chaired by Nancy Carman, at the local library. For the month of October, the Book Club is reading Theo of Golden by Allen Levi.
The Women's Club of Farmingdale, a local 501-C-3 non-profit organization, is always interested in welcoming new members. For more information, please email: President Margaret Barrett, mvbgiants@aol.com or Membership Chair, Lorraine Stanton, hslorry@optonline.net. #IAMGFWC.
