Upon arrival, officers were informed that a verbal argument had occurred earlier in the day between Saul Sanchez, 45, and a woman, 36, police said.

Sanchez brandished a boxcutter and threatened the woman, placing her in fear for her safety, police said. He then fled the scene on foot, police said.

The woman asked her eldest son, 21, for assistance with changing the locks on the doors, police said.

Sanchez returned to the scene and a verbal argument ensued with the 21-year-old, which escalated into a physical altercation, during which the Sanchez struck him in the head and broke his chain, police said.

Sanchez retrieved a machete from his vehicle and proceeded to chase the 21-year-old down the street, police said.

Sanchez, during the chase, also approached a 15-year-old male, threatened him, and demanded his black bag; the teen complied and Sanchez fled the scene on foot, police said.

Fearing for his safety, the teen called 911, police said.

A short time later, Sanchez was located and placed under arrest without incident; no injuries were reported, police said.

Sanchez was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery; two counts of third-degree menacing; third-degree criminal mischief; and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He was slated for arraignment Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
