A total of 362 schools in the U.S. earned the coveted title for 2019, with Bethpage being one of them.

BETHPAGE, NY — Nineteen schools in New York, including Bethpage Senior High School, have earned the distinction of being National Blue Ribbon schools for 2019, the Department of Education announced Thursday.

The Blue Ribbon honor "affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content."

Bethpage Senior High School, located at 10 Cherry Ave., Bethpage, was nominated in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category. It has 962 total students.

"We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives," said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a video message to the honorees. "As a National Blue Ribbon School, your school demonstrates what is possible when committed educators hold all students and staff to high standards and create vibrant, innovative cultures of teaching and learning."

A total of 362 schools earned the title.

Each school that earns the award is either among the highest performing schools in the state or among the highest performing in closing the achievement gap.
