FARMINGDALE, NY — A Farmingdale boy and his grandmother, who were badly injured in a crash on Route 109 in December, are expected to recover, said Paul Defendini, Farmingdale School District superintendent, in a message to the community obtained by Patch.

A 12-year-old boy, who is a student at Howitt Middle School, was walking with his grandmother, 69, south on Fulton Street, in the crosswalk, when they were struck by a 2009 Honda SUV driven by an 80-year-old woman at 2:50 p.m. Dec. 29, Nassau police said. The driver was making a right-hand turn heading westbound onto Fulton Street when she struck and ran over the boy and then struck and dragged the woman, police said.

The grandmother suffered severe trauma and critical injuries while the boy was seriously injured, police said.
