FARMINGDALE, NY — Farmingdale State College will salute its Class of 2020 in an un-car-ventional way due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The CAR-mmencement ceremony, an in-vehicle, outdoor celebration to honor the 350 graduates who registered for the event, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The official 101st Commencement is currently postponed, but there are plans for it to be held, according to the college. Participants are asked to arrive by 10 a.m. to Lot 3 of the college at 2350 Broadhollow Road.

The CAR-mmencement is both a celebration of Farmingdale’s spring 2020 graduating class,
and an opportunity for graduates to make a final drive-through of the campus, the college said in a news release. The participating graduates will meet in Lot 3 in decorated vehicles and their names written on the passenger side. Graduates must wear masks and aren't allowed to exit their cars.
