LIRR Train Strikes Car On Tracks; Driver Hurt
The crash suspended service on an LIRR line for more than an hour Tuesday afternoon and residual delays remain.

HICKSVILLE, NY - A driver was hospitalized after his car was struck by a train just west of the Bethpage train station on Tuesday afternoon.
According to an MTA spokesperson, just after 12:20 p.m. a westbound train struck the car at the New South Road crossing in Hicksville.
The driver was taken to a local hospital but his condition is unknown.

The incident is still under investigation, but it appears the driver attempted to go around the crossing gates, which were down at the time.
Trains between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma were suspended for more than an hour.

As of 2:30 p.m., service had been restored in both directions with residual delays averaging 15 to 20 minutes.
