Cow Harbor Warrior Weekend Kicks off Friday in Northport

The Cow Harbor Warrior Weekend kicks off Friday, with events taking place in and around Northport,

The weekend – featuring a parade, fishing and golf tournaments, a sold-out clambake and more – was created to help raise funds and awareness for the veteran organizations that support the advancement of wounded warriors who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

This year, organizers say 25 tri-state OIF/OEF Wounded Warriors will participate with families and community members for a weekend of recreation, celebration and appreciation.

On Friday at 6 p.m. representatives from Cow Harbor Warriors and the organizations supported this year – Semper Fi Fund, Northport VA Medical Center and Paws of War – will be welcomed in front of the Northport Fire House. There will be a special performance by the American Bombshells, a group whose cost-free entertainment for military and veterans hospitals are supported by their corporate bookings. Elected officials and dignitaries from the Village of Northport, the Town of Huntington and the State of New York will also attend.

Here are some of this weekend’s highlights :

• Warrior Welcome Parade – Friday at 6 p.m on Main Street. Formal Warrior Welcome in front of the Northport Fire House.
• The Capt. Joseph J. Boccia Jr. USMC 4-Mile Warrior Run – Saturday at 8:30 am, Crab Meadow Beach, Long Island Sound.
• DC3 Nathan B. Bruckenthal USCG “Fishing for Freedom” Tournament – Saturday at 6 am, Northport Yacht Club.
• Driving for the Brave Golf Tournament – Saturday at 7:30 am, Crab Meadow Golf Course.
• Adaptive Water Sports – Saturday at 9 am, Steers Beach. This event is exclusively reserved for our Wounded Warriors.
• Northport Sunset Clam Bake – Saturday at 6 pm, Crab Meadow Beach. This event is sold out.
