Farmingdale Football Falls to Baldwin, 20-19

A late touchdown helped carry Baldwin past Farmingdale Saturday afternoon.

Baldwin voices sang triumphantly in Farmingdale on Saturday afternoon as a season opener that featured little offense in the first three quarters ended with the Bruins defeating the Dalers 20-19 in Nassau Division I action.

Hero: Baldwin looked to establish its running game early with the two headed attack of juniors Javaun Tonlinson and Treyvon Mask. Mask stole the show not only on the ground but on special teams as well, giving Farmingdale fits with three huge kick-off returns as well as recording close to 100 yards on the ground. His efforts on special teams made the field much shorter for Baldwin who were able to capitalize on most of those chances.

Turning Point: After Farmingdale’s senior running back Rahliek Coward 19 yard touchdown to put the Dalers within one with 10:23 left in the fourth quarter, junior Zach Kolodny had his extra point blocked that would have tied the game. Farmingdale’s offensive line had problems all day with the Baldwin defense as Bruin linemen were constantly in the Daler backfield.

Quotable: “Well if we weren’t down an extra point we could be playing overtime," said Farmingdale head coach Buddy Krumenacker of his inexperienced team. "We had our moments today and we’re moving along. Every one of them is a new starter and I don’t think they played too bad."

Bottom Line: A very young roster looked shaky at times during the game. It may take a while for this Farmingdale team to gel and become a formidable unit. If the team does this though Long Island can be looking at a very good football team next year.

Key Stat: The Dalers were flagged five times for false starts with two of them coming on third down and one on fourth down.
