Farmingdale In 'Full Bloom,' Mayor Says, As Summer Events Continue

Hundreds of flowers were planted throughout the village. Upcoming events include movies, pop concerts, farmers markets, and more.

FARMINGDALE, NY — Hundreds of flowers and plantings were placed throughout Farmingdale Village's downtown and parks, putting the village in "full bloom" as it gets ready to host summer events, said Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.

Village Trustee Cheryl Parisi oversees the Village Beautification Committee, comprised of community volunteers and junior members of the Village Fire Department.

"They do an amazing job planting flowers, hanging baskets and more," Ekstrand said. "Special thanks to Trustee Cheryl Parisi for her ongoing beautification efforts, and to all of the village beautification committee volunteers, DPW, the Fire Department and Juniors for their wonderful planting efforts."

There's a full slate of summer events in the village:

What: Farmers Markets by Schneider's Farm
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 19

What: Mariano on the Piano
When: 7 to 9 p.m. June 24
Where: 317 Main Street
More: Mariano Schwartz of Farmingdale, a sophomore at St. Anthony’s High School, raised $10,000 to donate to Bronx Veterans Medical Research Re-Walk program. This cutting edge program designs exoskeleton walking suits that literally enable disabled veterans to proudly stand up and walk again.

After months of playing piano and raising money for Bronx Veterans Medical Research, Schwartz will present BVMR a donation of $10,000. A spectacular night is planned with Mariano on the Piano, special guests, veterans, and award winning Chef Eric LeVine

Limited seating, Reservations are filling up.

"The Farmingdale Village Board of Trustees and myself commend Mariano for the wonderful philanthropic efforts, dedication and generosity," Ekstrand said.

Other planned events include the Columbus Weekend Fair, and more.

"Thanks to the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts committee for also hosting the monthly Open Mic Nights, bonsai, chrysanthemum lectures and other recent events," Ekstrand said. "Stay tuned for 'Sherwood On the Green,' Eastline Theatre performances of Robin Hood in mid-October!"

Ekstrand also reflected on the spring events held in the village.

"It's been an eventful spring so far with good weather for recent events," he said.

The Mustang & Shelby Club of Long Island (MSCLI) held a successful charity car show on May 13, featuring 144 cars entered.

"We were thrilled to host the charity car club event," Ekstrand said.

The club donated $2,250 to the Farmingdale Union Free School District Community Assistance Fund and also had a 50/50 raffle benefiting the North Shore Rescue Vixens.

"Thanks to John Olesuk, Patrick McNulty, the MSCLI, all participants, spectators, sponsors - all involved! We look forward to another MSCLI show next year!" the mayor said.

The Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony was a "wonderful salute" to honor and remember veterans that served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, Ekstrand said. He thanked all veterans and heroes, the local VFW /American Legion, groups, marching bands, all who participated, attended, and the Farmingdale Fire Department.

"The community enjoyed the third annual Farmingdale Medieval History Day and the Farmingdale Fire Department's Spring Street Fair/Fire department open House/Bonsai exhibit on June 3," Ekstrand said. "Special thanks to the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee, John Capobianco, The Canton of Lions End /SCA and the Farmingdale Fire Department."
