Farmingdale High School Coach Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

FARMINGDALE, NY - The Farmingdale School District’s Girls’ High School Basketball coach was recently inducted into the Nassau County High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

Coach Pete Cerrone received the honor in recognition of his outstanding work as a coach in the district.

Cerrone is a well-loved figurehead in the Farmingdale athletics community, and has devoted 37 years to Farmingdale athletics.

“Coach Cerrone is one of the most dedicated athletic instructors our district has ever seen,” John Lorentz, Farmingdale School District Superintendent said. “He is both a coach and a friend to hundreds of students, past and present, and has led his teams with integrity and sportsmanship.”

In his time working with the district, Cerrone has set, and held, the record for most Girls’ Basketball wins in Nassau County history.

Under his coaching the Farmingdale girls’ team has won 17 conference championships, five county titles and two Long Island crowns.

“The success of any coach depends upon the total sum of tremendous support from the people around them: great assistants, supportive athletic directors, parents, and decades of talented athletes who brought the ‘Daler Way’ – doing it hard, and doing it the right way,” Cerrone said.

He has been named “Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year” 12 times, and 34 of his former student-athletes have gone on to play basketball in college – including six who are currently coaching basketball at the high school and college level.

“Our school would not be the place it is without Coach Cerrone,” Principal Samuel M. Thompson said. “He not only helps us to have one of the best Girls’ basketball teams in Nassau County, but he also makes the athletics program a welcoming place for everyone. We are very proud he has earned this well-deserved honor and recognition for his many years of hard work and success.”
